Government Polytechnic Sheikhpura was established in 2016 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Now, Department of Science, Technology & Technical Education (DSTTE) Government of Bihar. It was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar, Sri Nitish Kumar. Initially it was started with four Discipline i.e. Civil Engineering (CE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) with a batch of 60+3 students in each discipline. Computer Science Engineering (CSE) was added from session 2023-24 with a batch of 60 students.
