Government Polytechnic Sheikhpura was established in 2016 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), now known as the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education (DSTTE), Government of Bihar. The institute was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar.
The institute was initially started with four diploma engineering disciplines: Civil Engineering (CE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), with an intake capacity of 60+3 students in each discipline. From the academic session 2026–27, Computer Science Engineering (CSE) has also been introduced with an intake capacity of 60 students.
Government Polytechnic Sheikhpura was established under the Bihar Government’s ambitious Saat Nischay Programme, aimed at setting up Government Engineering Colleges and Government Polytechnic Colleges in every district of the state. The institute is committed to providing quality technical education, skill development, and industry-oriented learning opportunities to the students of Bihar, thereby contributing to the growth of technical manpower and overall development of the state.
